How do you stop paint in your ceiling from cracking and what causes this?

How old is the house? I haven't had that issue but it could come from settling.
could be settling or a poor spackle job. Is the tape lifting as well, where ceiling and wall meet? Also poor spackling
depending on the age of the home, you could have settling or you could have problem with your foundation and there could be some shifting there also, particularly if the foundation is wood.
Do you have any leaks from the floor above? Is the ceiling or floor level? What is the spacing between the beams? Are the beams split or under stress from weight or traffic in the upper floor?
