I love growing flowers.....didn't seem to be such a problem when I lived in Upstate New York...now living in North Carolina.... the deer will eat everything. The only thing I have found that works is using deer spray (apparently it is deer urine)... but I have to spray quite a lot... especially after a rain....if I miss it....they will hit my garden as if it were a smorgasbord.....HELP ME!

Can you shoot fireworks any time of the year. That helps keep them away from our house along with our dogs.

Sorry but there are so many issues with the deer.It will be trial and error ,you can try planting scented plants as lavender, mint, basil, chives, garlic, etc. Next Make sprays with to pepper, garlic, apply blood meal, spray castor oil. With deer and all the other rodents is a challenge. My advice is trial and error.

It's specifically for a county in North Carolina and is 8 pages long, so may be helpful. Good luck!

If you plant mint plants it will keep away bugs, mice and spidera and deer. It also smells wonderful!!! Good luck.

  • Deer do not like rosemary, try spriging some around the areas you want to keep them away from. Also, touch your plants almost daily, your scent will also deter them.

Although I live in the city, our neighborhood has a major deer population and I constantly fight the deer for my roses and other flowers. I've tried many of the plants, such as mint, and I will NOT recommend that, because if you have good dirt, these plants take over and their roots can be a disaster for something like a rose bed. I do utilize the granules/powder deer and pet repellent I find at Walmart or Lowes, as it helps, but be sure it isn't windy, or you won't be able to stand yourself. It does works for a week or better unless you are having storms.

I tried using solar lights and later motion lights which initially seemed to work, but then I believe the deer decided I was providing mood lighting for their dining convenience. Tried solar lanterns which changed colors and perhaps the movement of changing lights aided a tad, and I've also tried adding metal flower wind spinners in hopes the movement would help. It does seem that it helps but when there is no wind, they are of no help.

Now, even though my rose bed is raised and decorative block , planting marigolds around the outer edge last year helped some and brings in a variety of colors, but I prefer to feature the roses. The last several months, even with early warming and visit from the 5-8 deer I often find in the yard if driving at dark, I've had fewer deer tracks and eating of my rose buds since I placing a good layer of pine bark mini-nuggets covering the ground. They don't mat like mulch which seems to provide a solid floor, and I don't have to put a heavy coating down, thus easy to rake back from plants when feeding them. Even though still using preen to keep unwanted weeds from growing in the rich, loose dirt, I realized that the deer didn't mind sinking into the dirt, but haven't been up in the bed for a good two months. That could change any time, but it is a lot less expensive than repellents, helps reduce weeds and is nice looking and isn't harmful to pets.

I use Deer Away..that's the commercial name. It is putrefied egg and smells absolutely horrid. But after it dries, you can't smell it, but they can. We live in the woods and it works perfectly.. do respray monthly.
