What to do with this coffee table!

I got this coffee table for free on Craigslist. It has some damage on the wood and some nail polish. I would like to fix it up but I don't know what exactly to do. Any ideas? I have a red and a brown leather couches so I would like it to look nice with them. Thank you!
Hi there. The table is beautiful and would look great brought back to some life with some Ann Sloan chalk paints. There are many colors you can choose from to match your decor. There are great tutorials on YouTube. good luck and congrats on a great find

Step 1. Clean it up. Use Murphy's Oil Soap and use a toothbrush to get into those finicky corners and details.
Step 2. Old English Scratch Cover for Dark Woods will make most of the scratches and dings disappear. The spots where the finish appears to be rubbed through may require actual stain, however.
Step 3. Put it in your living room and admire your handy work.
You could definitely paint it (chalk paint or Fusion Mineral paint being the easiest); it has some nice details that could be accented. If it were me, I would get rid of all the glass (I had a glass table once too) as it can be such a nuisance to keep clean and consider replacing with a sheet of plywood or MDF over the entire top. If you feel very ambitious, you could even cushion the top to make an ottoman coffee table.
If you like the base but aren't crazy about the top, think of building a "sand box" on it. Get some molding the same style, build a frame and fill it with sand. Then put shells, sand dollars, sea urchins and such inside. Top it with a glass you can polish when needed. Here is just one pinterest idea.
You could also put any collection inside like game pieces, photos, bottle caps, etc. Hope that helps!!

Personally I am not a fan of painted would so I would sand the piece done an re-stain in a different color.
thats a pretty great table for free. I think it would like nice a lighter color. Like antique white. Maybe some kind of worn technique to give the illusion of natural wear.
I'm going to use that Murphy's oil soap as suggested by Devon and maybe I'll give chalk paint a try. Has for the tile on the top, I tried moving it to clean it but it's glued on pretty good so maybe I can paint it as well???
