Is there any damage to the walls? If not ,remove any dust, prime with Kilz or Zinser, allow to dry and paint with a different color.

choose a colour you love, buy a sample jar of it, and paint it on a wall in your kitchen to see if you can live with the colour.. if so.. go buy enough paint, and get to work!!

Paint is the best way to change and update. Try some small size paints at the hardware store, live with it a few days till you get the color you want to live with.

depends on the yellow - if you don't like any yellow, at all? it's a complete repaint.
otherwise, you can often rag (or sponge, or stencil, or stripe) over it and create a totally different look.

what are the other colors in the room (cabinets, counters, floors)
how much light does it get? from which direction (morning light is different than evening light)
and what's 'wrong' with the yellow (too brown (dirty looking) , too light, too intense?
