Is there a way to keep gutters clean? I have a large oak over my house and year round when it rains the water washes the leaves into the gutters then overflow instead of being redirected. I try to keep them clean but am beginning to have climbing issues.

try gutter screens and they make gutters that you never have to clean. check with your roofer.

Hope the tree branches are not OVER your house and shading the roof....this will shorten the lifetime of the roof. There are lots of brands of gutter guards and a handyman can install them.

I was going to suggest the screening also. It really is the best solution . If you have leaves that constantly sit on your roof, Judy is right , they will ruin the shingles .

This is really coincidental. We just bought a one piece gutter system last night. I don't want to mention the brand. We are getting too old to climb ladders. W e have screens right now and every time we get high winds we find a piece in the yard, so they arent working. It's an investment, but we have some wood rot behid the gutters we have now and I do t want that to get worse.

We have gutter screens and hate them. We have a 5 1/2 wooded acre yard so we have all kinds of wildlife in our yard especially during the nighttime hours and early morning hours. The squirrels and raccoons have pulled out most of our gutter screens and we find pieces of screen laying in our yard all the time. We will be putting new siding and gutters up this summer and this time around we are thinking about using the one piece gutter system. Our house is two stories and we are both getting up there in years so climbing ladders to clean out the gutters has become pretty much impossible anymore with our advancing years.

We put new gutters on our house about 4 years ago and they are made big enough that leaves are not trapped in them....have not had to clean them since. Check with a roofer and see if he can give you an estimate.

Something we've been thinking of, too. A neighbor had the one piece system last year and no more maintenance. If they do clog, the manufacturer will have them cleaned. We have lovely shade trees in the front and back, and between the leaves blowing into them, squirrels and birds, we always have some debris to clean even though the trees don't hang over any part of the house. I cleaned them last year, but, not this year. So it will be hire someone or get the new gutters! Good luck and stay safe!
