I have ground hogs in my garden

The groundhogs eat everything in my garden--tomatoes, perennial bush branches, morning glories down to the roots.
How can I deter them coming into my gardens?

I have a couple ideas for you:

    • Get a dog . Groundhogs are afraid of dogs.
    • Take hair from your hairbrush, ask your hairdresser for the hair clippings they sweep up, and spread human hair around your garden, and any other areas you are trying to protect, AND around the groundhog holes.
    • Spread used cat litter around the groundhog holes.
    • Garlic! Groundhogs hate the smell/taste of garlic, so sprinkle garlic powder around their holes.
    • If you are growing a vegetable garden, harvest your veggies as soon as possible because they attract groundhogs
    • Trim back overgrown foliage, and remove piles of rock and brush from your yard in order to take away hiding places and make groundhogs feel more exposed
    • Fill their abandoned burrows with rocks or gravel or even just mud

The groundhogs come from another area--not sure--I think they may nest under a utility hut in someone's backyard.

I will use the hair & garlic techniques.

    Thank you.

Put bubble gum out near the hole, they cannot finest it. Or use a have a Hart trap. Or just shoot em

Wow - living in New Zealand we have nothing like this to worry about so I found the suggestions very interesting. Would the good old fashioned Rat Trap down a hole work?

Ground hogs are a good size. A cage trap would accommodate them but then I would need to bring in a professional.
