Floors
I have wood floors in my kitchen and they squeak. I have tried the baby powder and spray cooking oil but nothing has worked. The basement is finished so no way of getting to them that way. Don't really want to take up the boards. Any other things I could possibly try. Thanks.

Home Depot has a kit just for fixing squeaky floors. It's in the hardware section.
I had the same problem in a hall above a finished basement. This is an old carpentry trick. Use your foot to find the squeaks. Mark them with pieces of tape. Drill 1/8" holes into the wood at an angle facing each other about 1/2" apart. Use 8 Penny (8d) finish nails and nail them into the holes. Countersink the nails and fill the holes with a Minwax wax pencil same color as the floor. The nails at an angle will pull and hold the floorboard from moving.
Well, my fellow Home TaIkers. I read all about this in a site that makes it seem tricky to deal with the squeaks if you can't get to it from the ground up! At the end of the article (actually, the second to last paragraph) it mentions the nails/screws put in at an angle but as a last option, using carpenters' glue and a putty knife.
