Summer pruning (July or August) Cut back the whippy green shoots of the current year's growth to five or six leaves after flowering in July or August. This controls the size of the wisteria, preventing it getting into guttering and windows, and encourages it to form flower buds rather than green growth.

Wisteria should be pruned before the new growth appears in the spring or after it has stop flowering for the season.

For the best results you can prune once in the summer and once in the winter. If you know how your vine grows that will be helpful too. If you like how they grow you don't have to prune at all if you don't want to. Hope this helps.
