How do you remove lighter areas on bricks?

I replaced the screen on my fireplace with a smaller screen. Where the older screen was, it left lighter marks on the bricks where it had rubbed.
If you have an extra piece of brick, mix some stain and try it on the extra piece of
brick to match the color
