36 inch is standard in the industry. If you ever want to sell the home, 36 is a must. If it's your forever home, make it comfortable with your height

When we bought our home it had really short counters. The original owners/builders must have been short at 35". When we redid the kitchen I had the counters raised to 39". Love the height. Good on the back.
  • Standard is typically 36" but the bar top portions vary greatly. If making for your home, make the bar top portion a comfortable height for your family.

36" is the standard height for kitchen countertops...and a bar top is typically between 36" and 42".
