Yes; lightly sand and prime first.

Lightly scuff surface with 400 sandpaper, use a good quality primer and paint. You should clean and decrease surfaces first. Don't cheap out on your brushes because you'll hate the finish. Sand between coats. There is also milk paint or cabinet refinisher (expensive) if your feeling adventurous. Happy painting!!!

You can chalk paint anything, and you can make your own chalk paint so you have unlimited color choices. If that is of interest to you, you can buy a sample size of paint at your local Home Depot or Lowe's and mix in 1/3 cup of plaster paris, as well as a bit of water until you get the consistency you desire. I like mine on the thin side as that seems to leave fewer brush strokes. With chalk paint, you should expect to do at least two coats, maybe three. When you are done, there are several choices to choose from for sealing your work. You can use the traditional wax, or you could also use a poly finish. I really like Rustoleum's Chalked Matte Clear finish spray. It think it is a great product, and it leaves the matte finish that is desired with chalk paint.

These days there is a paint and treatment for almost anything. I suggest you google it or simply go to your local hardware store and they will be more than happy to help you. There may also be commercial companies in your region that specialise in this type of work.

Yes, you can paint laminates. You first have to sand it to scuff the surface with 150 sandpaper. Make sure to remove all of the dust with a tack cloth or wet paper towels and a vacuum cleaner. I like to next put on an oil based primer. You can either brush it on with a foam brush or buy the spray. the spray isn't as cost effective. I like using chalk paints. You can make your own which is a lot cheaper. Pinterest has the recipe. You can distress the piece after you paint if with sandpaper (go easy at first). Most people put a wax over what they paint, but if is going to get a lot of use, I would recommend a water based poly.

I've used Chalk Paint many times to paint laminated surfaces.
