  • Vinegar works pretty much with all types of stain, wet the stain with vinegar and let it soak for a while and then dab with a kitchen tissue. Repeat again if you still see the satin. Also try soaking the stain in rubbing alcohol for a while and then dab dry with a kitchen tissue. The above are for fresh stains, if the stain is old then it is a toughie! Since your rug is white try bleach, but I must warn you if the stain is too big then the yellowing from the bleach will be visible. Good Luck!
  • Hi Kathleen, Try mixing about 2 cups water, 1/4 cup lemon juice and a bit of liquid dish detergent. Use a clean sponge to drip the solution onto the stain, covering the whole thing. Gently rub the stain with the sponge working from the outside edge towards the middle. Dab the area dry with a clean towel or something similar. Dabbing the area with 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water might also do the trick. You may need to let this sit over night for a serious stain.
  • Once you get most of the stain up, there is a product called "Folex". It is available at some of the big box hardware stores. It works quite well. Be sure to BLOT and don't smear it. . .that just makes the spot larger. FYI, if it is wool you may have a problem. Coffee is actually used as a dye.
