What is the best countertop refinishing kit? Easy, as I am 70 yr.old

LOL! Easy's a fickle friend; I think she's BFF with lotsa people, me included. Have you thought about concrete countertops? Several people have posted on Hometalk about their individual projects, some covering formica with concrete. I have to agree with Nancy . Easy is a relative term . What is easy for me may not be easy for others . I suggest looking on YouTube for ideas that you think you can pull off .

Yes, concrete is so much easier than it sounds!!!

I live in a modular (before you judge, it's paid for!) and I painted my counter tops. I sanded the formica, painted them and then put quite a few layers of poly on them. Wet sanding lightly in between coats. They turned out beautiful, I think (and so do many of my friends and family). No heavy lifting and not a lot of down time.

Wow, never thought of that. I have researched a kit Daich Spreadstone Counter top Refinishing kit. It looks easy and resembles the marble look I want.

What type of paint did you use? Color? I have heard 'chalk paint' holds up well.

Hi Marilyn, I painted y old countertops and they lasted 12 years until I could afford to replace them, likely longer if I kept them. Here's how I did it, hope this helps you out

Lightly sand to rough the countertop up

Go to your paint store, tell them what you are painting, they will pick the proper paint and primer for you, you can even get the primer tinted for a better coverage

Once you have sanded, clean with TSP, then rinse and dry thoroughly,

Apply your primer coat, let it dry according to the instructions

Once the primer coat is dry, apply your paint coat, I would apply 2 or 3 as it will be stronger and thicker

Once your coats dry, you can apply a matte clear coat, either by spray or roll on, keep a small container of it under your sink for touch ups, (I never touched up) I had my counters like this for 12 years, until I could afford new ones.

I used a few uncolored glass cutting boards for protection. It held up very well. And only costs you the prices of the materials.
