DIY Rustic Farmhouse Bowls

Farmhouse decor is all the rage, but it can get pricey! So, why not create rustic farmhouse-style bowls using an outdated thrift store staple? Click HERE for more details!

Vintage silver plate bread baskets are pretty common at thrift stores and yard sales- and some of them are pitted or permanently tarnished. BUT, with very little work, they can be transformed into contemporary, farmhouse-style decor!

To begin the transformation, I gave my bread baskets a quick makeover with my FAVORITE farmhouse style spray paint! Check out my original post for more paint details!

Then, using various types of burlap and linen craft ribbon, I began weaving in and out of the bread basket "spokes".

When I finished one ribbon, I glued the ends together inside the basket/bowl. Then, I wove the next piece of ribbon in an opposite pattern directly under the previous ribbon. I used a smoother, softer burlap ribbon on this bowl, but check out my blog post for other style ideas!

When all was said and done, I had a basket-woven bowl, ready to fill with apples, oranges, or some other bowl filler- like rattan or boxwood spheres! This is quite a basket-weaving cheat, too! And a super inexpensive way to add some DIY Farmhouse style to your home in no time at all.
