Tip for repelling cats from garden...

Cats are repelled by certain scents, namely peppermint, lavender, and citrus. They also hate the feel of walking on used coffee grounds and egg shells. I make a mixture of a few drops of essential oils, coffee grounds and ground up egg shells. I add chopped up lemon or orange rind if I have it. Sprinkle in the garden. It's a temporary fix but effective. Replenish after heavy rains and they should be repelled from your summer garden.icon

I sprinkle cayenne pepper or chili powder in the garden. One sniff and they remember.

That sounds like a great idea! Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for sharing! I will share your tips with my Mom cause she has problems with her neighbours cat in her front yard.

Hope it works for her. I had another suggestion from a reader saying he also sprinkles crushed hot peppers or cayenne pepper on the dirt. You could add some of that to my mixture as well. It all should discourage them from using your mom's garden as a litter box!

I use Irish Spring bar soap shavings in any areas I do not want the cats to visit or use the bathroom. That don't like the scent.

Thanks, I'll add that to my list.

The stray cat commitee in our area states; the pouring of vinegar around the perimeter keeps the cats out. I use it around my bird and butterfly garden it helps protect the critters from the cats.
