How to decide which fertilizer to give to which plants?

Answered

Acid loving plants don't do well with general purpose fertilizer. But it is hard to know which plants do and do not love general purpose fertilizer. Then it is necessary to plant the correct plants together. I think that the information provided with nursery plants should say which fertilizer to use.
