Irish spring soap! Sounds strange but I tried it myself and they got close but when they were close enough to eat my plants they turned and walked away. best of luck.
You can try making sprays with hot pepper and garlic.
I had heard that sprinkling human hair around the perimeter of the garden helps, but I've never actually tried it. :/
I have a country farmer's old recipe that has worked...It's a little gross, but organic and effective.
urine (about 2-3 cups), couple of eggs, garlic (I used powder) and cayenne pepper or other hot peppers. (I used powder or cracked red pepper). Put all this in a milk jug, fill test of the way with water, shake well. LABEL THIS. Let it age at least a couple of week- longer the better. Then pour this foul brew in a thin line around the perimeter of your plantings.
Ive also heard kerosene soaked strips of fabric but didn't have as much luck with that.
This time around, new property, I've researched and am planting things they dont like as well. Of course a hungry deer will eat anything green if there's nothing else better around!
We have the same problem. About 7 years ago, someone told me about Milorganite. It works. We pick some up every spring. It fertilizes and keeps away the deer. Here's a Home Depot link, so you know what it looks like, incase you want to pick some up. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milorganite-36-lb-Organic-Nitrogen-Fertilizer-100048741/100618523
Turns out they have a wikipedia page on it. I knew what it was, but it's pretty interesting. Thanks fine folks of Milwaukee! We call it people poop. , but don't let that discourage you. It comes in little pellets that look like the dippin dots ice cream. Here's the wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milorganite
Hope that helps!!
