Best way to seed a yard?

What is the best way to seed a lawn? Should it be done at a certain time of day, or don't it matter? Also, is there anything anyone else finds effective to keep the seeds from washing away if it rains? Thanx :)

Generally full seeding is beneficial in the fall when weeds are not as active. For now you may experience weeds which will have to be treated at a later time. Cover you areas with top soil,seeds,starter fertilizer and cover it with peat moss,keep mist until the seed germinates.
Great Share Janet! I have found that the birds tend to 'feed upon' new lawn seed quite readily...so in addition to peat moss...I like to add top soil to cover the seed better give the seed roots more depth & stability & it enhances the moisture retention quality.
