How do I "winterize" a hydrangea?

Half the people say cut it back, other half says don't touch it.

Leave the plant alone until your next spring season.When it starts to emerge than you can easily see the dead wood that needs to be pruned.
You first need to find out what type of hydrangea you have. Some should be cut back in the fall, others should not.
Fertilize them in the fall, and then when it starts getting cold, put a thick layer of mulch or pine needles around it. You can trim them back a bit before you do this. If you want, you can put fencing round the plant to contain the mulch.
I don't touch mine and they do great
