How do we add shade to a covered pergola?

After replacing many canvas pergola covers, last year we added a permanent pergola to our deck and used polycarbonate panels with a tint for a covering for shade. Although it does have UV ray blocking, it does not provide cool SHADE. I am thinking of adding some simple draping underneath. I've seen moving cable draping but we never moved our pergola covering, we just need a shade covering. I'm thinking of using natural colored muslin drop cloths gathered and sewn together but have no idea of how to hang them or attach them underneath. Has anyone done a project like this?

Hey Elizabeth, that looks do-able. And since I want mostly total shade, I could place them as close together as necessary. Thanks for the input!
