Flowers for desert landscape

I am tired of changing flowers in the flowerbed twice a year. What should I plant to give me color and would be permanent?
This is what I also have in the flowerbed in the back-yard.

Thanks Vicki, I know, Gilbert is hot, thanks for your suggestion. I am planning to create a flower arrangement in a big pot with artificial flowers, and place a couple of solar lights in the middle.
