I purchased our home 6 years ago, and since that time I have noticed the front outside steps are shifting and coming away from the house. The entrance looks boring and is open to the elements. we recently purchased a new door but haven't replace trim as of yet. on a tight budget, any suggestions. ( I am also looking at improving my walkway which is cement pavers that are approx 24" x 29" )
My front door entrance

The step has shifted and is coming away from edge and tilting down on the left side.

Honestly for now I would focus on the door which seems to be a major issue.Temporarily make some container plantings to brighten up the area until budget allows differently.A colorful mat will also help.

Thank you Janet, I am still trying to decide on a color. I literally just replaced the door hence the trim missing 😉

Some type of railing to the left possible wrought iron would warm it up some. Not sure of what the rest of the exterior looks like so you could possible use wood. Brick mounding ( trim is not too expensive that will add some appeal. Some type of over hang will cost a bit more. As long as you are using a good exterior paint the door should hold up. Not sure how long the steps have been there. Things settle and shift. Without looking at it close up I could not truthfully tell you a fix. They are definitely pulling away from the house. Hope this helps a bit

Thank you, the siding is vinyl and I have cultured stone that we will be putting on the lower half. This is the reason for the tight budget. I just replaced the door still deciding on color as well as trim is going to be done shortly. I like the railing idea, think I might check out the local Restore and see if they have anything we could use.

The door trim would be my main focus for starters. Can the stairs be jacked up and leveled as a temporary fix until your budget allows for you to replace them? You can stain or paint your pavers for now until you are able to replace your walkway. You can make the area look more pleasing until you can afford the makeovers you want; that's the fun part of being a DIYer! I'd add a few potted plants to bring some color to the entryway and add a pretty seasonal wreath to the door. Enjoy the process!

Thank you Elizabeth. The door as mention in the other replies just got replaced so trim should be done shortly. I hadn't thought about staining the pavers, once I figure out the color I want for the door i can consider the pavers 😉
