I think it depends on you and your family situation. For us, we raised our children in Texas, so the two pools we had built were definitely worth the investment. The children loved it, their friends loved it and we loved it. We now live in Missouri and with a much shorter swim season, I don't know that it would really be worth it. Hope this helps!
an't speak about an inground (built-in) pool, but an above ground pool is great if you use it! Its a great way to keep the family active and cooled off in the summer. Its a nice place to entertain friends, both kids and adults. Maintenance is easily handled by even a busy homeowner. Once you have the filter, pool cover, filled pool, everything you need, the only expenditure is for the chlorine to keep the water fresh. I say for an above ground pool it is worth it!
That all depends upon what part of the country you live in, availability to public pools or beaches, etc. A backyard pool is a big expense and costly to maintain. If you are considering an in the ground pool, consider the fact that a pool is not always a good selling point should you decide to move.

When we first installed it, he was in it nearly every day for a month or so. The next year, when we set it up again, he used it for about a week and then lost interest. I still had to test the water and treat it or shock it, and when we didn't set it up the next year, he didn't care.
