I would like to remove the wall but it has a dead chimney in it.

I suggest you get a building contractor to determine if the wall is structural and if it can be removed along with the fireplace. I assume that because of the fireplace it is structural and would not be a DIY job to remove.

This îs major. If chimney extends thru roof it means roof repair, matchíng shingles etc. it's also sledgehammering all that brick out, and floor repair. I'd consider removing wall and figure out how to incorporate brick chimney in design!

Something tells me I should leave well alone, (the wall).
