Clean the door with a rag dipped in acetone or mineral spirits. Then clean with a clean rag dipped in water and mild detergent . Sand the wooden trim if applicable , around the glass inserts with 220 grit sandpaper. Be careful to avoid the glass and fiberglass . Apply a thick coat of primer to the newly sanded wooden trim and allow to dry at least 2 hours or until no longer tacky.

Stir your paint until evenly mixed . Using a thin brush , paint the wooden trim, following the grain. Then using a wide brush , paint the recessed panels ,smoothing out paint to avoid drips or runs. Finally , paint the vertical center piece using up and down motions then the horizontal sections starting at the top and working your way down .

Allow to dry overnight before removing the tape or applying a topcoat which would be a second coat of paint or a sealant .

If you want to keep the wood look, go with stain. If your tired of that look paint.

Have you checked Habitat for donated doors for a replacement? If you don't mind doing the work, you could clean, sand, prime then paint or stain your old door. Unfortunately direct sun expose will always affect the color of the door over time. However, Rustoleum has an excellent paint for doors. Best of luck.
