What plants will survive exposure to road salt and gravel ?

I have a large corner area in my front yard which is subjected to rock salt and gravel during the winter and spring . Grass does not survive and the area is covered in weeds and patches of bare soil. I have cleaned , placed new sod and reseeded with no success. I am now considering planting flowers or greenery but what kind would survive conditions?
