empty or eliminate all pooled standing water Mosquitoes lay their eggs in the water also outside a fabric softener sheet in your pocket repels them along with all the plants mentioned in Janet's post above Also if you are outside on a deck or porch a rotating fan helps, they cant fly in moving air

You can also try the bug zappers you hang and plug in. The size you use depends on the area you need to cover, like a deck or patio. Use citronella candles or something like that can help. A yard will never be mosquito free no matter how hard you try, all you can do is make areas a place they don't want to reside in. I used the Citronella Geraniums with good luck last year I had two of them about fifteen feet apart.

You can Google diy mosquito yard spray. Find the one for 80 day repellent with blue mouthwash and beer. Using it myself. Works better than zapper and not poison

I use Spectracide once a year and it gets rid of most bugs. It can be sprayed inside or outside, it will not harm carpeting or painted walls. This was a winner for me.

Spray around outside doors and windows and around the base of the house. No spiders in the basement, where I spray also into the ceiling and around the floor and fireplace. It is good for a year.
