I am having a related problem for the last few years. Most of my peonies are fine—the ones 3 feet away are perfect. The problem ones are doubles (triples?) with tight buds. It's like the buds are too tight for the flowers to open and they turn brown before opening. So sad! They are treated just like the others. The others are a red variety double, these are light pink/white.
