DIY Chippy Paint Technique

After designing these custom corbels for shelves in my kitchen I wanted to give them an appropriate aged chippy paint look to fool people into thinking they were actually antique salvage. Here’s how I did it.
First stain the wood using Early American by Minwax. Once the stain has thoroughly dried (overnight), mix your milk paint. (I mixed several of Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paint colors together to achieve the blue I wanted
Once the paint has dried, it’s time to start distressing.
Paint white chalk paint over the entire piece.
Lightly sand to remove more paint and distress further.

You custom designed the corbels? VERY impressive! Would love to use something like this to make the kitchen window shelves. The cats have taken over the bottom of the window, but glass shelves would look great. Thanks for all the inspiration!
