Well, there are probably better ways than this, but this is what I did to my entire home. I used a heat gun and sharpen scraper and then took a power sander and took it down to smooth wood. I did it a section at a time over a period of 3 years.
I have used the grinder with vacuum attachment after testing for lead. No lead present. Was faster than any other method. Rented the equipment from Home Depot.
It looks a lot better than vinyl siding. By the way, don't use a pressure washer. I did that on one side of my house and made all kind of grooves in the wood. Messed it up royally!
I agree that wood siding looks far better than vinyl. Vinyl siding makes a house look like a trailer house w/o the wheels. I wouldn't have vinyl on my house even if you paid me to install it. I'll stay away from the pressure washer, thanks.
