by Lindsay Dillon
Finally closed on our house and as it all sets in, I need to paint the front door now, which was not intended or planned for a diy rt away but as luck would have it we changed our locking system throughout and we'll folks, the new one does not match the previous thus leaving paint circle as pictured here, ....

Given the home, asking for color suggestions as I was going to go with a dark black, Tricorn Black was one, but geezer so many black variations! !

Black would look nice, or maybe even a soft yellow for a pop of color.

What direction is your front door facing? If you are a believer in fung shey, you might want to do a quick read on best colors for East, West, etc. facing doors.

Black seems dour to me. I repainted our black door to a dark red. Its a traditional color that means welcome. Our neighbor painted hers a spring green and it looks great. It depends on the house style, what goes with your brick, and the curb appeal.

One neighbor even painted her door the color of her crepe myrtle flowers. When the tree blooms, its great with the door.

But I agree with the previous commenter... a pop of color is great.

Good Ole Crepe myrtles, we had them all over growing up, I do now see that a pop of color is due to have the door pronounced, but you don't really see it anyway from the street, the drive to the house is covered with trees so an element of suprise would be nice as you come up the short but covered drive

I like red, which I think would look good on your brick house.

A black door would be dramatic on red brick or white stucco, but your brick does not want a black door. Black would make your entrance depressing, not dramatic. Your brick looks to be gray and orangelsh. A blue gray door would compliment the brick nicely and would be very inviting.

AHHH, a blue grey, Kinda like that, glad to see another texan, I'm sure you can imagine the colors living in this state, most homes are a variation of these colors, I only wonder with the new handle how it would show against the rt color. I am def going to research blue grey colors and see! Ty

I think a pop of color....agree with soft yellow or red.

    • Lindsay Dillon Lindsay Dillon on May 12, 2017

So funny you mention yellow, I thought if I did paint the door black, yellow flowers would just pop on the front steps ...I do like how you think tho and alot of people seem to be agreeing on a shade of red!

Actually love the color it is, but because of the marks I understand you need to do something. Found this door on a brick house and think the color is gorgeous! Good Luck!

I would makea shade of red for the front door! a statement and show your personality! There is a little white church with a purple door! Or white homes with black trim often use a shade of red for the door. Have fun!

Blue or turquoise would look nice with your brick. Don't do black, you won't be able to see your new hardware.

    • Lindsay Dillon Lindsay Dillon on May 12, 2017

Agreed, it won't be visible and I do like the new hardware however interior of the home is all silver,... whoops I'm sur that's a big design no no!!

    Historic red or blue.

  • Caseyem11 Caseyem11 on May 12, 2017

    Go with a bright blue.

I agree with the RED! And add red potted flowers (geraniums?) on the porch/steps to pull the color and top off with bright patterned cushions in a bold red print.

When we bought our Spanish med. home, everything was painted grey and made the house look drab and unwelcoming. It's since been painted a buttery yellow with a maroon front door that sets off the Spanish tile roof. Both the actual door and the screen door have a custom made rounded top in solid oak. We also added a pretty, brass kick plate on the screen door and front door.

First, your home is beautiful and I luv the style ab yes, I can see how it would just kinda sink back in and not pop, but the way you incorporated the colors from the tile I think is excellent and def a great way to pull color. That's what I was studying is the outside brick color, eventually the outside of the home will have more landscaping etc 🤔🤔

I like the idea of black BUT your beautiful new hardware wont show up very much.. My front door is red and I love it!

    • Lindsay Dillon Lindsay Dillon on May 12, 2017

I have to say I luv this,.... beautiful shade of red and very well done, luv your cute, cozy entry, do u know what color of red it was?

  • Sharon Roscher Sharon Roscher on May 13, 2017

As you can see, with most homes, they're always a work in progress.

You have wood pillars along your porch. You can always find a color that matches, or at least comes close.
