I want to take down my pantry and making an island

I have a pantry that separates my kitchen and my living room I want to remove that from ceiling to floor and put in a island. My question is will be hard to patch the ceiling when we remove it?

I have never done this. Tho when the island is once removed, there may be a area where support is needed for the frame of the home. I would ask a person who is familiar with custom building, and ask for his wisdom. This would be much safer, and also, there may be electrical needs that must be repaired correctly too. First you need to determine whether any of the pantry walls are load bearing. That would require some structural work and support. Patching the ceiling would not be a problem.

if the pantry is small, I know it is not load bearing,,,,if it is large in length...it probably is...you can tell by tapping gently on the ceiling with a handle on a screw driver...if you hear a thud where you hit wood, mark that spot, move a bit more to the left and right of the mark and tap again until it sounds hollow and mark those spots by pushing a nail through....you are locating the header if there is one.. go into the ceiling and find those nails by moving the insulation...if there are two layers of wood on top each other, it is load bearing....if there is one board over 4" thick, it is load bearing...under 4" it is not ( load bearing walls are suppossed to be 6" thick, but some builders cheat to save cost by nailing 2 2x4's on top each other).....if you cannot get into the attic use a straight blade sheet rock knife and cut a hole in the ceiling just large enough for your hand to go through and feel the boards from bottom to top...if two boards or if one board longer than the tip of your finger to your palm,,,it is load bearing and needs to be shored up before you take down the pantry
If the pantry walls are load bearing structure, you will need a home building professional or someone with engineering expertise to direct you in the way to remove the walls and support the structure properly. Better safe than not. As far as your ceiling, yes, it can be repaired easily. Best of luck.
