We have the same problem. Depending on the size of your critters, you may need to use chicken wire or a smaller metal "cloth" (a metal mesh that runs about 1/2 inch squares). Most all home stores carry it in rolls. Tin snips will cut it to the desired height (wear gloves!). Bury it about 2" in the dirt and staple it to your shed or cover the top with a wood slat that you screw in. That should keep them out.
