How do I design a garden?

My yard is a mess. I have chooks a dog and a 4tear old granddaughter. My house block is on a slope. I have no money. So how do I work out A garden plan that I can do ?

If your dogs won't get into pot plants, go to the local restaurants around town and see if they give away the old food buckets. You can poke holes in the bottom, and use them as a container garden.

  sorry my notes must have misled you. The garden is mess because it has been neglected . The dog doesn't dig the garden. The chooks will so I have to build a pen for them. It is how to plan this all out that has me stumped.
