I have squirrels that tear up potted plants any ideas?

Try putting hot crushed pepper in the pots and spray the outside down with crushed hot pepper and garlic.

Ground cayenne pepper; bamboo skewers with pointy ends sticking up; you could cover the soil of the potted plant with river rocks; you can also mix strong smelling coffee grounds with the top layer of soil, the strong smell will deter the squirrels.

cover the top of the planter with tightly fastened chicken wire...then hide the wire with soil...squirrels,raccoons, armadillos can not dig through the wire, but plants can grow through it by simply cutting a space large enough for the plant to fit in...I use plastic pots and attach the chicken wire with screws....sometimes they try to chew through the wire, but soon realize it's too much effort...also attract the squirrels to another location...use scrap wood...drive a nail all the way through...spear an ear of dried corn on the cob on top the nail...wire fasten to a tree away from the planters....sit back and watch the squirrels take the easy food route and enjoy your plants...dried corn on the cob can be bought at any feed store and usually home depot or lowe's or at wild birds unlimited or online. love nature and enjoy the squirrels by watching that ear of corn disappear...funniest thing I ever did was throw sugar cubes to raccoons...they try to wash the cube, the sugar melts, and they set to chattering up a storm about where it went. lol lol you can also buy the squirrel feeder online...google corn cob squirrel feeder for pictures
