Bubbling water keeps them away from my fish pond. I believe mosquitoes need stagnant water to breed. Do your fountains keep the water rippling?

Actually I did do research and the common consensus seems to be that bubbling water will drown mosquito eggs. It's worked for me, but your experience may differ. That's what makes Hometalk a good resource, bringing together the experiences of different people.

If the birds don't use it and it is for decoration put baby oil in the water it will float on top and keep them from laying eggs in the water.

I would first empty the bird bath, and make sure there is NO EGGS under it, for they will find any place possible to lay eggs. Secondly, plant Mary Golds around the bird bath, and also Geraniums for they hate these smells. Also, you can have these same plants on your porch, where you sit at night, and there will not be any biting bugs that pester you. Enjoy, and best wishes, J.
