I know this may sound a bit crazy- but using a hot steam iron has worked for me. I had a huge water spot on my oak dining room set, and I put a thin hand towel (folded in 1/2) on the spot, and "ironed" the towel with the iron on a steam setting. The water spot disappeared in seconds.

Have you tried applying plain white toothpaste?

White toothpaste (not gel) and a damp cloth. A dab of toothpaste on the cloth and rub gently in a circular motion. Wipe and buff.
