I live in a rental apt. and need some ideas to add some personality

It's a loft apartment with open vents on a very high (12 foot high) ceiling. Painting the walls, changing the flooring, etc. is not an option. It's a historical building so no structural changes can be made. Need some ideas to give it some personality.

Don't know what your decorating style is, but...I would start by determining your color palette and then adding some area rugs, artwork and tasteful kitsch to add color and warmth to your rooms. You didn't say how big your rooms are, but a knockout piece of furniture to provide a focal point in a large room to draw the eye towould look great. If your rooms are smaller more 'open' pieces would look best. Think etageres for storage or open bookcases to provide multi purpose function. Good luck and have fun! You are lucky to live in a historical building; so much character!

The building does have character! It's the old Mead Paper Factory in St. Joseph, MO. It's where the red Big Chief tablets used to be manufactured. When I was a kid we used them in school

Hang bright fabric or quilts to make a statement wall. An etagere with colored glass would add pop. Patterned area rugs will warm up the floors and define spaces.

You should talk to your landlord - we livein a rental, but our landlord is letting us do a LOT! We are going to redo the countertops in the kitchen, and just ran our color choices by her. It could be that you're able to do a lot more than you think!
