I have a very small back yard garden. All I have are tomato plants. The first tomato that turned red something eat part of it and it was not me. Maybe bird or squirrel I dont know.
You will need to put netting over the plant. Or you can pick those tomatoes 🍅 when they are green right before they turn red. Just set the green tomatoes on your countertop to ripen. Do not put them in the refrigerator. Hope that helps!
You can buy bird netting at any garden center. Place it over your tomato bed and anchor it down with garden pegs. They'll still get the sunshine and water they need and birds, deer and rabbits won't eat them on you!
I think it was a squirrel. They always eat my tomatoes. You could try a chicken wire fence and sprinkle epsom salts around the garden. Someone at the garden center said this would help. I'm trying this this year.
My brother, who is an expert tomato grower, uses the empty clear plastic containers that berries and grape tomatos come in to loosely cover the green tomatos until they are ripe enough to pick. That deters squirrels and birds'
I actually had ants and fruit flies eating my cherry tomatoes that happened to split on the vine. I left them on for them to eat and leave the other tomatoes alone. I have seen birds peck at my strawberries that are by my bird feeder also.
Probably squirrels, they are looking for water. Put a few bowels/small buckets of water AROUND your garden for them to get a drink and they should leave your moisture filled tomatoes alone ☺
