Thanks. I haven't found a useful video yet. They skip the parts showing how to actually DO the work. Also my threshold doesn't look like the ones in the videos which has me worried. It's a garage side door and you have to step over the threshold. It was covered with aluminum but the hole piece of wood under the aluminum is rotten. I will keep searching for a video.
There are so many kinds of thresholds you can buy today that say they will resist water, are taller or smoother than older thresholds, or are made of modern materials. Shop around, read the instructions, watch the videos and pick your poison. Make sure your threshold is supported on the outside edge so you don't put too much pressure on either edge. If you choose wood again, seal, seal, seal. Best wishes.
I did my garage door entry when I first moved in, I crowbared it up, took it in a plastic bag to the lumber yard and had them select treated wood, and cut to fit. I painted piece with marine epoxy paint. Then I cleaned the area and screwed down with exterior grade screws and caulked. And I installed a metal trim with a rubber flange on the bottom of the door to prevent water seaping in that I got at Ace Hardware.
We are thinking about how to add a backsplash to our kitchen. Unfortunately when we had our countertops installed we ordered a small backsplash that comes part way up...
