DIY National Parks Inspired Chalkboard

We recently completed a National Parks themed room for my four year old son, and this is one of our DIY projects from the room. I'd originally been thinking we'd do a bear-shaped chalkboard, but I couldn't get my sketch to look exactly like I wanted, so I changed course and went with an arrowhead shaped inspired by the NPS logo instead. You can see the finished room here.

We started with a big sheet of plywood, and I sketched the logo on it with a pencil.
My husband used a jigsaw to cut it out.
Then I painted it with several coats of black Rustoleum ChalkBoard paint. I had that left over from another project and the plywood was scrap wood, too, so this was a super inexpensive project--my favorite kind ;).
We hung it up by just screwing it straight into the wall with anchor screws, to make sure it was secure enough to handle my son drawing on it and playing around it. We hung it right at his level so he could reach it easily; also because we had big plans to hang a gallery wall up above it (you can see that here).

The other day my son was lying in bed before falling asleep and he said, "isn't my room the prettiest room in our house?" So I guess he approves :)
