If you are not afraid of chemicals. I suggest using a spectricide brand product. for weeds and grass or for weeds in lawns. ( that doesn't kill the grass).. applied when weeds are small is best. do as needed but generally every 3 -4 weeks in my area. just don't get on anything you want to keep.
I'd start by trying to suffocate them out with newspaper and mulch. Layers of newspaper on top of your weeds should cut off their oxygen and cause them to die out. If they pop through the newspaper and mulch, just layer on some more. Good luck!
Dig them up. Get all the roots. Throw in garbage. Very time consuming and disheartening when you have bugle weed and creeping Charlie all over. A never-ending battle.
Pour vinegar or bleach it kils anything but you can not use it in the garden
1 gal vinegar, 2C salt, 1/4C dishsoap. Mix. Apply w/sprayer!!! Bye, bye weeds:)
I understand but spectricide goes on leaves and drys, and has never been a problem with my animals. .. I've heard vinegar works to kill weeds too. give that a try on a few and see what happens.
Boiling hot water. I have done this it works great. Be careful not to get any on you.
They say to spray vinegar on the roots.
You can kill all the growing weeds by using a commercial herbicide. But that won't prevent the seeds already lying in the soil from sprouting and begin the cycle all over again. Weed seeds can lay dormant in the soil almost for ever. All it takes is sunlight and water for old seeds to sprout. Weed seeds are reluctant to sprout if they are shaded, which is why a healthy grassy lawn is less apt to support a lot of random weeds. Your best bet is to prevent weed seeds from sprouting in the first place. You need to use a "pre-emergent" weed preventer, such as a product called "preen". The product contains a chemical that interrupts a seed's internal hormonal process need for sprouting. A good application of preen will be good for about a year. And, will have to be applied every spring. Once you have a good cover of your desired plants, or lawn grass, never cut the good plants shorter then two inches tall. Scalping a lawn will only create the prefect condition for dormant weed seeds to sprout. Two inch tall lawn grass shades the bare soil and keeps the soil cool so weed seeds won't be encouraged to sprout. Spot treat weedy areas. If you have pre-treated an area with Preen, you can't use grass seeds to fill in the bare spots. You must used transplanted grass plants to fill in the bare areas -- either plugs, sprigs or pieces of existing turf transplants. They will eventually take root and begin to spread out to fill in the bare spots here you killed the weeds. Preen is a blessing for using in flower beds, between rows in the garden and other places where your don't want unwanted plants to sprout and grow. In the early spring, many home owners swear by the benefits of using a post emergent weed and feed product in their lawn - it contains selective herbicide that clings to the surface of undesired weed species and kills them while they are small and growing vigorously. Plus, the fertilizer feeds the grass for a thicker, healthier lawn. Weed and feed is only for lawn where grass is the desired cover crop. It doesn't distinguish between a weed and a flowering ornamental in the flower bed. There a skads of weed killing products on the market. You just have to experiment to find one that works for your special location and needs. You may have to use several different kinds to satisfy all your weed killing situations.
