solid barriers, weed eating, and hand trimming. It will take frequent maintenanc- it can get out of control in a hurry. I have to cut it out of my hydrangeas and azaleas constantly- while recovering from surgery, I let it go about 6 Weeks. I had to find my shrubs! My husband thinks it's almost as bad as kudzu!

Yes it seems to expand by runners and by roots. Just like ripping out ivy occasionally, you can't really hurt it. The pulling out of EITHER plant can actually be very therapeutic, and very satisfying when done! Rawr! (wear gloves, tho!)

evergreen pretty ground cover with pretty purple flowers in the spring...i found out that it was invasive the hard way...even after you THINK you have pulled it all up, keep checking the area ever spring...it is sneaky! and if you decide to keep it, keep it well confined!!! i don't know if seeds are spread by animals.
