I would not use this with pets. Try baking soda and sugar. I mix equal of each in warm water and leave a dish out where the ants are. I have also seen a dry version of this with equal parts icing sugar and baking soda, mized and put in little jar lids. The area should be wiped with vinegar to clean up the trail scent.
I spray and that keeps them at bay, but I know they are still in there...eating away, populating and doing whatever little ants do because they occasionally come out ...

Use the home made borax/sugar bait to kill off the queen. They will move away from the house if settling there keeps getting them killed off.

Ants do not like cucumber. You can juice or puree whole cucumber,and apply it to the area of infestation. Good luck.
