They can be! Just make sure the paint is heat resistant. Have fun!

Yes, they can be painted and/or dyed. Please make sure to unplug the lamp, prior to doing either. Also, if you have painted the lamp shade while it is on the lamp...do make certain that the entire project is completely dry before plugging it back in it. I know these are likely things you already know, but I think that sometimes we get excited about stuff and forget about safety. I had a friend who had an incident that way and she is very smart, but impulsively began to work on a project and did not have it unplugged. She did not get hurt, but it did scare the heck out of her. Don't forget to type in the words, "lampshade upcycle" in Hometalk search area and you will find several different ideas for lamp shade upcycling ideas! There are lots of questions here, but not as many people send in their finish projects. Please do, so we can all see your project when it's complete. I'm looking forward to it! Who knows, you might end up inspiring someone by your upcycle!!!

Thank you Katherine for all the useful information. I'm new to Hometalk and new to trying to recycle and craft items. I will look into other lampshade upcycles. Have a wonderful summer

You're welcome, you are going to be so excited at all though things that you can do with things you already have and can repurpose to make new again!
