You can grow things down there that we have problems with up here in the north because our growing season is so short. Cool weather crops probably can go in months before ours can.
I am familiar with your area as I am originally from New Orleans. And the answer is yes, you can plant a summer garden even this late and still reap its rewards. Just remember to water every day to keep it growing. I currently live in Northeast Texas and we are just now getting around to planting ourselves...been too busy with renovations to dedicate the time needed before now.
