Dig a hole, away from a tree, or building, or porch. Then put stone in the bottom of it, and this will be a great way to enjoy your yard, and your fire pit. Enjoy, and be safe, Judy.

You can buy a kit & make one or you can do like we did & make one out of castle stone. We had a lot of castle stone ( the stackable kind for retaining walls & garden beds) left over after doing our front beds. We put the first layer down in a circle the size we wanted then marked the inner & outer circles. We dug out a trench that was wide enough for the blocks to sit in & deep enough to keep them from shifting. We packed the trench until in was hard. We put the first layer in the trench then stacked the stone until it was three stones high. We used construction adhesive in between the blocks. We've been using it now for eight years without any problems.

I have always liked this one. I can't find the post for instructions but I believe it was less than $75. Plus you could put a grate over for cooking.
