Many years ago, we used to live in a house in the country that had a well pump, and it was a complete eyesore as well. Our solution was to gather rocks from around the property and stack them to build a wishing well surrounding the pump. We then built a small roof for the well and it did a great job of covering up the eyesore. I hung a small metal bucket in the well...and put a couple of plants into that eventually draped over the edges. You could also build a well with bricks...just stacked so they won't be permanent in case you need easy access to the well.
