I would opt for just foliage to keep the bees from swarming in that area. Try a purple Dracaena spike which will give you color and a dramatic effect.You can also try sun loving Coleus.
We had a pool for years and years and I had all kinds of plants and flowers in pots on the deck with no problems whatsoever. They got splashed all the time and kept thriving!
