Succulents once again!

Hello everyone! I posted my poor succulent a while back. My question is since there is very little succulent dry dirt do I water it more often or stick to once a week? Remember I am a beginner gardener and want to do the right thing. I would appreciate any input what so ever :)

  • I would mist this once a week and see how it does. If the succulents start to look dry and shrivel, mist more often. But take care as the plant on the far right looks to be an air plant which really takes minimal water. This is a beautiful piece and we are all here to help you succeed!

Air plants need to be misted.as far as the succulents, being planted in the wood the only solution as I see is to mist them as well, however I cannot guarantee it will work Trial and error

Very pretty! Depending on the air humidity, spritzing them w/ fine mist several times a day can do the job.

I just wanted to say that your hens and chicks in that piece of drift wood is stunning. I so want to copy it. I'd just mist them when the dirt feels a little dry but don't let it get dry as a bone and don't keep it dripping wet either. I good rule of thumb is to just stick your finger into the dirt and see how wet or dry it feels then water or rather in your case mist it as needed. Very pretty display. Do be careful about watering your air plant to much or you will kill it.

Thank-you for your wonderful advice! I mist the air plants once a week usually. I have them here and there on my little porch. :)

Being in Florida, I am sure you have seen air plants in the trees. They survive the rain and the humidity. If you have high humidity in your house, it would need misting occasionally. Otherwise once a week should be good. You should see changes to it if it is too much or too little. Go by the health of your succulents, If they are doing real well the way you are treating them, keep doing it that way. You must be treating them well as your succulent garden is gorgeous!

Love the way you have them displayed.. I have hundreds of hens and chicks and as such have to pull all of the new babies out every year. I have them in dome shaped terra cotta pots in what they call strawberry pots. and as borders around all of my flower beds. My mother plants were moved from my granpas house in Virginia to Ohio in 1969, then l moved the original ones to NC in 1990 then back to Ohio in 2006 along with about 100 of the babies. In all of the years i have had them I have just done as granpa taught me, use good soil ( I use Scotts top soil) for everything. The only water the ones in the ground get is when it rains. I accasionally water the ones in the pots when we don't have rain for awhile. To much water will cause the roots and the bottom leaves to rot. BTW:: I also have male ones too.

Simple rule to watering succulents - water when the soil/dirt is dry. Not bone dry, but almost dry - unless it's winter - then it needs to be bone dry.
